This two-part series will be on one of the most famous Qi Gong practices called “The Eight Silken Movements or The Eight Brocades” (also called Baduanjin in Chinese). These movements are usually considered a medical form of Qi Gong and used to improve your overall health and wellbeing. This class will teach the “Wu Dang Style of the Eight Brocades” where Dr. G went to the Wu Dang mountains in China to learn from a famous Chinese Master.
The movements address all the meridians or channels in the body and help move stagnation which can create disease in both the body and mind. There are numerous benefits to this Qi Gong practice that are said to improve overall energy, (achieve the wisdom of a 90 year old and the energy of a 9 year old), vitality, bone density, strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, longevity to name a few. As well, these practices are great for reducing blood pressure, cancer support, thyroid and hormonal issues, gastro intestinal support, headaches, chronic fatigue, depression/anxiety, back pain, arthritis and more.
Ancient Chinese texts reveal that the Eight Silken Brocades were a specific form of Qi Gong designed to eliminate fatigue and harness energy which allows for greater longevity and stress reduction. It gets its name from the eight movements and the silken quality of the movements during the forms.
The first class will cover the first 4 movements and the second class will finish the last 4. We will combine all the moves at the end so you will learn the entire sequence. We will go over some Eastern Philosophy so you have an understanding of how this form of Traditional Chinese Medicine helps heal the mind/body connection. We will balance your body, mind, heart and spirit through the movements. Learn to transform negative emotions into productive forces. Tap into your innate body’s ability to turn on the healer within to help prevent disease, address any current health problems and enhance your quality of life. We will end with a brief guided meditation that Dr. G will lead.
As Dr. G likes to call Qi Gong, “Acupuncture without Needles” , “Movement Meditation” or what Harvard has deemed “Movement Medication”. This is a great way to enhance any current acupuncture treatments you may be getting and will lessen the dependency of treatments creating your own health care you can do at home anytime.
