Okra Water
During a mission trip to central Texas with my daughter, we worked on community farms and harvested okra, a southern staple.
We also discovered Okra Water, a beverage made by infusing okra pods in water, similar to Aloe water. Research suggests it aids digestion, improves skin, supports weight loss, and controls blood sugar. Locally, it was praised for its hydrating properties.
Ingredients:
- Fresh Okra
- Filtered water
Directions:
- Wash and cut the stems off the okra. Then, slick okra pods in half or chop them.
- Place okra in a large jar and cover it with fresh filtered water (we recommend 2 parts water to 1 part okra)
- Refrigerate for at least 8 hours. Water will turn slimy and slightly thick.
- Once infused, strain the liquid with a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth.
- Add lemon juice or honey to add flavor (not required)
- Store in a refrigerator for up to 3 days for freshness
