A Healthy BBQ Sauce
Many store-bought barbecue sauces are loaded with added sugar, excess sodium, and unnecessary preservatives.
A typical store-bought sauce can contain up to 15 grams of carbs in just 2 tablespoons! Many also use high fructose corn syrup, a heavily processed sweetener linked to heart disease, obesity, and diabetes. That same 2 tablespoons of sauce can also have 200-350 mg of sodium, nearly 15% of your daily allowance.
Additionally, these sauces often contain preservatives like potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate, which may increase the risk of inflammation, oxidative stress, obesity, ADHD, and allergies.
This is a good reason to make your own sauce.
Here’s an easy recipe to try at home. Feel free to tweak it by adjusting the spice or heat to your preference.
