Why Magnesium Matters…

Magnesium is an essential mineral and is the fourth most abundant mineral used in the body. It is an essential cofactor for over 300 enzymatic systems in the body that regulate biochemical reactions. Some of these include protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, blood pressure maintenance, bone structure, energy production, memory, and detoxification. In 2015 the Food and Drug Administration concluded that Americans were under consuming magnesium and listed it as a “nutrient of concern”. Turns out over 60% of Americans are deficient in magnesium. 3 Ingredient Vegan & Gluten-Free Chocolate Almond Bark Recipe is an easy recipe for thick pieces of indulgent chocolate bark packed with crunchy, roasted almonds. Thanks for our friends at Beaming Baker for this yummy recipe INGREDIENTS 1 3/4 cups vegan chocolate chips or chopped paleo chocolate (about 12 oz) 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil 1/2 cup unsalted, roasted almonds Optional Topping 1/4 cup unsalted, roasted almonds INSTRUCTIONS Line a small or medium baking sheet with wax paper or parchment paper. Clear some room in the refrigerator for this sheet. Set aside. To melt the chocolate, use the double boiler method or do the following. The Relaxation Response

The Relaxation Response is a simple, effective, mind/body approach to relieving stress.  Some qualities of the Relaxation Response include… Decreased heart rate Decreased blood pressure Lower respiratory rate Lower pulse rate Decreased oxygen consumption Decreased muscle tension Reduction of cortisol Reduction of noradrenaline Steps for the Relaxation Response Sit quietly in a comfortable position. Close your eyes. Deeply relax all your muscles, beginning at your feet and progressing up to your face. Keep them relaxed. Breathe through your nose. Become aware of your breathing. As you breathe out, say the word, “one”, silently to yourself. Continue for 10 to 20 minutes.
